On Wednesday 14th February, Mytime Active welcomed local children in foster care to Southampton City Golf Course for an introduction to golf and a fun few hours of play, followed by a healthy lunch.
The session started with the basics of hitting a few balls in the practice area, followed by chipping around the green, a putting session, and finally a few holes of golf on the 9 hole.
Unfortunately, the weather was pretty horrible on Wednesday and only six young girls braved the elements. They received a warm welcome from the Golf Operations Manager, who set the session up and organised everything. Free hot drinks from our Food & Beverage partners Bowlers helped keep the young golfers warm and interested.
Despite the bad weather they all had a fantastic time, and at least two of the children are now keen to start playing golf with their carers.
After the golf, participants and family members headed to Bowlers restaurant in the club house from some arts and crafts and a healthy lunch.
The event was held in partnership with Southampton City Council, and all the participants were young girls who are in foster care.
All the children have been offered a free pass for the 9 hole course so they can enjoy a game in better weather.
It was a pleasure to introduce the girls to the game of golf, and we will be offering more sessions in the future.
