32 participants took part in Swimathon at the Spa on Saturday 28th April, raising £3,633 for Marie Curie, Cancer Research UK and the Swimathon Foundation with more pledges still to come in.
Six-year-old Daniel Fry (pictured), who has only recently learned to swim, came first in the Bromley and Beckenham area out of 80 participants, first in Mytime Active venues and 14th nationally out of 785 participants swimming the same distance, with a time of 15 minutes and 40 seconds. Daniel’s efforts raised a total of £627.50.
Friends, family and volunteers were on hand to cheer the swimmers as they finished. Some of our participants had overcome cancer, some were out to to beat their personal best, but most just wanted to help others in their fight to beat cancer and to get involved with the community.
Special mention to Coby, Vida, Cameron and Chloe, who helped out in every possible way from cheerleading and commentating to getting in the pool and encouraging swimmers to finish.
You can see all the results on the Swimathon website.
