Bromley surges to 5th place in London Youth Games

Bromley’s hockey teams scored a blistering result in the London Youth Games at the weekend, edging the borough up to 5th place overall and with neither the male or female teams conceding a single goal. See the rankings here.

Team Bromley, sponsored by Mytime Active, enjoyed a successful weekend overall at Europe’s largest annual youth sports event by coming through the qualifying rounds in four different sports at Redbridge Leisure Centre on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 June.

As well as male and female hockey, Bromley also qualified in male squash and badminton and can now look forward to competing at the finals at Crystal Palace on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 July against the cream of young London sporting talent.

Alex Crawford, team manager for the female hockey team was delighted with her side’s performances after they topped their group unbeaten and without conceding a single goal. Alex said: “The girls are really proud to represent their borough and they’ve all worked and played really hard. We’ve trained hard, we had quite a lot of training before today and their positive attitude on the pitch, their teamwork and the effort they put in was fantastic and I couldn’t be more proud or happier.

“We’ve got a good bunch of players. They’ve got some good ability but the thing about this game is you’ve got to play as a team. It’s no good having just one or two good players with the others just making up the numbers, they all made a contribution, the squad of 12- they all did. From that point of view, that’s what made the difference between winning and losing today.”
