A flying start for Team Bromley in the 2019 London Youth Games

The London Youth Games have been inspiring young Londoners since 1977, when they were launched to mark the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. Since then, 33 London Boroughs have competed on an annual basis for the prestigious Jubilee Trophy.

An exciting new partnership between the London Youth Games and Nike was recently announced.  It launches a brand new chapter for London’s largest event in Europe for young people. Nike will elevate the Youth Games experience by offering high quality sporting events and moments for all participants, volunteers and supporters, aiming to engage 200,000 young people by 2022 across the capital. Grant schemes and coaching courses this year are tangible examples of their sponsorship support which will benefit Team Bromley.

With support from the Mytime Active Partnerships Team, ‘Team Bromley’ have got off to a flying start in the 2019 Games and are at the top of the leader board after 9 sports so far and 3 Team Gold medals. Around 700 young people and their volunteer Team Managers compete for Team Bromley in over forty different competitions across the capital in hope of securing the Jubilee trophy for a fourth consecutive year.

To represent Bromley, youngsters must either live or attend school in the Borough.  All competitors are encouraged to live up to the values of Fairness, Ambition, Inclusion and Respect during all London Youth Games competitions. Dina Asher Smith and sisters Shannon and Cheriece Hylton started their athletic careers competing for Bromley in the London Youth Games.  But, whether they made it to the Olympic track or only played for fun, there are thousands of Bromley youth whose lives have been impacted by the power of sport.
