Mytime Active 20th Birthday - Member's stories

Marcus, 31, lives in Orpington and has been attending MyTime Active’s MyClub for the last few years. 

MyClub is a social group in Bromley for adults with special educational needs or disabilities. It offers functional exercises, multi sports, Zumba, dance parties, golf and bowling, all delivered in a fun way, in sociable and supportive groups, across many of its venues, including Walnuts Leisure Centre, The Pavilion and Bromley Golf Centre.

Here, Marcus explains why he looks forward to attending the group.  He says: “I really enjoy visiting the Pavilion Leisure Centre where I join in with bowling on Tuesday and Thursdays and also participate in a dance exercise class on Thursday.

“Bowling is lots of fun and very sociable. It’s great to meet up with friends that I have met through MyClub here.  The dance class has really energetic pop music and we all move and sing together. The instructor is really lovely too. You don’t need to be a good dancer or have specialist clothes; just wear comfy shoes and clothes.

"I enjoy getting out and I like getting the train over to Bromley. The MyClub activities, plus the walking groups organised by Bromley Mencap, get me out of the house and give me a routine. Plus MyClub organises additional social activities, including summer and Christmas parties. I also like going to the cinema. There’s so much to do in Bromley and the surrounding areas.

“I would encourage anyone to come and join MyClub.  Everyone is made to feel welcome.  We are a friendly bunch and the instructors and volunteers are really kind and helpful. It’s excellent that there are so many different activities, across a number of venues.
