Scott, 46, has been a member of Mytime Active’s Pavilion Leisure Centre for two and a half years, but has been into sports and fitness his whole life. He uses the gym most days, as well as taking part in Adam’s gym floor class, and also does MMA outside of the gym.
“As a child and young teen I was a bit chubby, but I was doing boxing and was told I should go to the gym to help with my training. I loved it and had a natural flair for weight training, so around the age of 16 that took over,” he explains. “When I was about 24 I stopped the bodybuilding to focus on more general health and fitness goals; I want to live a good quality life for as long as I can. I have a young son and want to be able to keep up with him as he grows.”
When Mytime Active installed EGYM’s smart strength training equipment back in August 2025, Scott wasn’t keen to try it out. He says: “I was used to traditional strength equipment and free weights and thought it was just a bit of new tech and not really needed”.
“But it has benefited me in so many ways, such as maintaining my form and the full range of motion during exercise, without cheating or doing half reps for best gains”.
“The different training modes, which aren’t available on traditional machines, are amazing to work with and usable for anyone at any level of training; guiding inexperienced users and preventing injuries compared to normal gym machines. The automated seat and arms are a massive help too, especially for people that don’t how best to set it up.”
Scott was given an induction by Chris, Pavilion Leisure Centre’s wellbeing lead, who set him up with a muscle building strength programme to best suit his needs. Scott expands: “The programme initially focuses on slower reps and then alternates between adaptive training and Isokinetic training to allow me to build strength in new challenging ways. The programme regularly updates, which mimics the training from my bodybuilding days, where I changed workouts every four weeks to keep it challenging and engaging”.
Scott is a big fan of Mytime Active’s EGYM Game Days. He states: “I love a challenge! At the last event I took part in the chest press competition and won. The way it’s set up engages with all users as it’s personalised and fair to everyone. It makes the challenge more about who has the most grit and will stick with it to beat themselves, and makes a big difference compared to most gym challenges that are just about overall strength”.
“From the regular strength tests and my scores on the app, I can see my strength has increased significantly. Being able to see my gains and regular improvement is really motivating and satisfying at the same time. I would struggle to go back to standard machines now I’ve seen how much the EGYM machines can do for me”.
