Its not just golfers that like a hole in one, bugs do too! The Centre Manager at Orpington Golf Club, decided that our (not so cute and fluffy) friends needed a helping hand, so asked a friend of the Club to create our very own “Bug Hotel”.
Situated next to the patio, its in the ideal location to enjoy a bit of bug spotting whist enjoying the view and a drink from the clubhouse.
Did you know….
- There are more than 20,000 species of bees in the world.
- Bug hotels help biodiversity by attracting organisms such as ladybirds, bees, and woodlice, and by providing habitats and overwintering sites.
- Woodlice are nocturnal, meaning they sleep during the day and are active at night.
- Ladybirds are technically beetles.
- A hive of bees will fly over 55,000 miles to make 1 lb of honey, and an average hive can make about 100 lbs of honey per year.
- Woodlice are only about 1 inch (2 cm) long.
- The honey that bees produce contains antioxidants that help improve the function of the human brain.
- Ladybirds hibernate.
- Ladybirds' spots are a warning sign to predators.
- Woodlice have 14 legs.

Want to check out the bug hotel? Pop in for a drink and enjoy the view! Open to non-members!
