Team Bromley are the London Youth Games champions

On Sunday 9 July, Team Bromley were crowned the winners of the 2017 London Youth Games for the second year in a row.

After nine months of intense competition, starting with the cross country event back in November 2016, the 2017 London Youth Games came to a close this weekend, after a nail-biting finale at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre.

The London Youth Games is Europe’s largest sporting festival, with all 33 London Boroughs competing in over 40 sports including judo, cricket, tennis and netball. Introduced in 1977 to mark the silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth, this year marks the 40th anniversary of the games and Team Bromley’s eighth win.

Following a successful competition so far, with wins in cross country and tennis, Team Bromley entered the finals weekend on Saturday in 7th position overall. We managed to claim gold in girls' swimming and bronze in the boys', as well as picking up valuable points across a number of other sports. Our winning streak continued as we went into ‘Super Sunday’, with Bromley teams winning gold in girls' and boys' athletics and girls hockey, along with top three finishes in seven other sports.

For the second year running it all came down to the boys' squash final, where we secured first place and claimed the overall title from rivals Wandsworth by just four points!

See the overall scores, and Bromley sitting proudly at the top of the leaderboard.

During the London Youth Games we work with over 70 volunteers and engage more than 800 young people, showcasing the spirit of hard work and dedication in Bromley as well as our high standard in sports.

Our thanks to everyone who participated.
