Active Bromley Photography Exhibition

The Active Bromley Photography Exhibition was commissioned as part of the Hight Street Lates Sport & Wellbeing Festival, with funding from the GLA.

The aim of the exhibition is to showcase a range of people taking part in a wide range of sports and physical activities.

The photographs were taken at several London Youth Games Events where Team Bromley were competing, at local sports clubs and at the Pavilion Leisure Centre. We would like to say thanks to the photographer, Aneesa Dawoojee for the superb images - See Aneesa's website here.

Ryan Day - 13 - Hockey

Ryan Hockey

Ryan enjoys playing hockey and was named Langley Park School for Boys hockey player of the year in years 7 and 8.  He is a member of Bromley & Beckenham Hockey Club and has represented Team Bromley at the London Youth Games, with the squad defeating teams from across London to win gold medals at this year’s games.  

Although hockey is Ryan’s number one sport, he also enjoys playing rugby, football and cricket and he is also a keen athlete.

Despite his keen interest in other sports Ryan’s ambition is to play as part of Team GB Men’s hockey squad.

Francesca - 9 - Badminton

Francesca Badminton

Francesca trains with Orpington Junior Badminton club at Harris Academy in Orpington. The club support Team Bromley’s entry into the London Youth Games and Francesca was one of 14 young people chosen to play as part of the Team Bromley badminton squad.  Competing against teams from across the London, the squad finished on the podium, securing third place and bronze medals.  Other key achievements for Francesca:

  • Kent Futures Singles Girls Under 10 (Gold)
  • Kent Futures Singles Girls Under 12 (Bronze)
  • Kent Future Doubles Girls Under 12 (Gold)

Francesca’s sporting ambition is to be a national badminton player.

Alessia - 12 - Athletics, High Jump

Alessia High Jump

Alessia loves sport, and competes in athletics, gymnastics, trampolining and football.   Alessia is a member of Blackheath & Bromley Harriers, and her biggest athletics achievement is breaking the national record and winning the ISA Nationals in high jump.  Alessia’s ambition is to represent Great Britain (or Italy) and compete in either the high jump or the heptathlon at the Olympics.

Sean - 51 - MyClub

Sean MyClub

Sean loves to take part in lots of different activities, including the MyClub Zumba, and Dance Party classes.  As well as keeping fit, Sean also likes the social side of the sessions and always smiles when he sees familiar faces at the classes he attends.

Jean - 79 - Primetime, Strength & Stability Class

Jean Primetime

Jean spends several hours a day at the Pavilion Leisure Centre in Bromley taking part in lots of different classes including Yoga, Keep Fit, Zumba, Line Dancing and Paracise. 

Jean says “The Pavilion has been an absolute life line for me, and I feel very blessed to have use of the wonderful facilities.  I believe exercise is vital for everyone but especially for older people who wish to remain active and healthy both physically and mentally”.

Christine - 14 - Netball

Christine Netball

Christine plays netball for the school team and the team were selected to represent Team Bromley at the London Youth Games 2023.  The Netball Team Manager is a member of Telstar’s Netball Club and with the benefit of her coaching, the team finished in 5th place, after facing tough competition from some of the best young netball players from across London.

Samuel - 14 - Swimming

Samuel Swimming

Samuel and his brother, Shekinah (age 13) are members of Orpington Ojays Swimming Club and train at Walnuts Leisure Centre.   They train with the club 6 times per week and compete regularly, for example in the Kent championships and the London Regional championships and regularly win medals.  Samuel said “The best thing about swimming is the sense of accomplishment you feel after achieving a goal you’ve set.  I want to continuously improve and be the best I can be”

Kinga - 31 - Body Pump

Kinga Body Pump

Kinga loves to participate in Body Pump as well as Body Combat and martial arts.  She is a regular at The Pavilion Leisure Centre in Bromley as well as other Mytime Active sites, including The Walnuts in Orpington and The Spa at Beckenham.

Kinga says “I initially started working out to help me with my anxiety and depression that I’ve been struggling with for years and honestly - one of the best decisions…. from obvious physical health improvement, it has done a ton of work for my mental health and my overall confidence. I cannot recommend it enough!

Hannah - 3 - Swimming

Hannah Swimming

Hannah is learning to swim and loves her weekly lesson.  As well as learning new skills and gaining confidence in the water Hannah is friendly and sociable and enjoys the time in the water with the other children in her lesson.

Sophie - 12 - Athletics

Sophie Athetics

Sophie is a member of Blackheath & Bromley Harriers and has competed in the London Mini Marathon, for Team Bromley at the London Youth Games and for Kent in inter county cross country events.  As well as cross country Sophie also competes in the 100m, 200m and the long jump. Sophie says, “I’d like to be the next Keely Hodgkinson and be the youngest athlete to be Women’s European Indoor 800m champion and win a medal at the Olympics”.

Brodie - 13 - Road Cycling

Brodie Road Cycling

Brodie is a member of Bigfoot Youth Cycling Club and was selected to represent Team Bromley as part of our road cycling squad entries into the 2023 London Youth Games.  Brodie and the team competed at the Velopark at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and had a great day securing valuable points and supporting Team Bromley to finish overall in 4th place.

Harry - 24 - MyClub

Harry MyClub

Harry attends weekly MyClub 10-pin bowling, dance, sports and Zumba sessions at The Pavilion and Walnuts Leisure centres.  Covid-19 was a distressing and unsettling time for Harry, so the development of MyClub sessions has provided Harry with much needed structure and routine.  He now looks forward to activity days and especially likes the Zumba class with Amanda, who brings a lot of energy and great music to the session.

“Access to activity in the community is so important for Harry and through the activity and the opportunity to meet peers and socialise he is enjoying life a whole lot more”.  Debbie, Harry’s mother
