An impressive 1,500 Santa lovers will cover 3,000km during an annual seasonal dash at events across the Midlands and South of England. Mytime Active’s festive fitness tradition is now in its seventh year, open to people of all ages and families, keen to keep active during the countdown to Christmas.
Launched in Bromley, Kent on 18 November, more than 800 participants with beards and red hats crossed the finish line. The Santa Dash moved on to Sandwell Valley Country Park, in the West Midlands last weekend (01/12) before the final two events at Dibden Golf Park, Southampton, and Priory Gardens in Orpington, Kent, this Sunday (09 December). There is still time for people to join these final events with registration online via Mytime Active’s website.
Deborah Raymond completed the Santa Dash in Bromley. She said:
“We had so much fun doing it, it’s a great opportunity for us as a family to enjoy a healthy activity together ahead of Christmas.”
Ann Brown, Santa Dash event co-ordinator:
“It was fantastic to see so many friends and families join together and have so much fun. Our volunteer marshals from the Police Cadets did a grand job ringing their bells, encouraging the Santa’s towards the finish line to receive their medals. That sense of community is what it’s all about. We have been astounded by the popularity of these events each year with more people taking part than ever. The deadline for registration is this Friday so there is still time to sign up!”
Each Santa Dash starts with a mass Christmas-themed warmup before participants complete the 2km courses as a fun run, jog or walk. The mixed terrain is suitable for pushchairs, so the littlest members of the family can join in the fun. All entrants receive a runners’ pack containing a Santa suit and race number to be worn on the day, and a medal at the finish line.
