5 top tips to help you stay on your wellbeing journey

If you’ve recently started a new fitness routine, congratulations! The first step is always the hardest, so you should feel very proud.

The next challenge is to keep yourself motivated, so you can continue being active. The Mytime Active fitness team have pulled together five top tips to help you stay on your wellbeing journey:

  1. Make time

    Block out regular slots in your diary for exercise, or make a recurring appointment in your phone calendar. Try to vary the activities to maintain motivation levels. Book ahead using the Mytime Active app – as a member, you can book a class 10 days in advance.

  2. Don’t overdo it

    If you’re been inactive for a while, then you need to build up your activities gradually. Be realistic when it comes to your current fitness level and ask for advice if you need help deciding on suitable activities. If you want to make good progress, you will need to keep working harder each time – we call this the “Overload Principle” - but don’t overdo it, as this could cause injury. Talk to the fitness team at any Mytime Active leisure centre.

  3. Find activities you enjoy

    If you’re not enjoying a form of exercise, you’re much less likely to continue. Think about activities you might like – for example, you may prefer Zumba to gym sessions. With over 100 choices when it comes to fitness activities, check out your local Mytime Active centre and try something new.

  4. Be prepared

    A well-prepared meal plan will enable you to make more time for being active. Think a week ahead and plan your daily family meals – this will help you make healthier food choices, too. Before you go to bed, lay out any gym and/or work clothes for the next day to help you get out of the house more quickly.

  5. Exercise with family and friends

    Do you have a friend or family member who enjoys the same activities as you? Whether you choose a group class or a gym session, you’re much more likely to continue exercising if you have a buddy. This also gives you some quality time together.
