Leading obesity scientists recognise the role of MEND in the battle against child obesity

A scientific paper published in the Lancet by leading obesity scientists has highlighted Mytime Active’s MEND programme for successfully tackling childhood obesity.

The report by the World Obesity Forum and published in the The Lancet today (19/02/2015) also states that the programme could be expanded to deliver health care objectives:

'Programmes such as the Mind, Exercise, Nutrition, Do it (MEND) Programme...have effectively improved child weight status and could serve as scalable community-based programmes that extend the reach of health-care delivery systems'

Management of obesity: improvement of health-care training and systems for prevention and care. By William H Dietz, Louise A Baur, Kevin Hall, Rebecca M Puhl, Elsie M Taveras, Ricardo Uauy, Peter Kopelman

Dr. Paul Sacher, Mytime Active Research Officer and co-founder of MEND, said: "This is a significant recognition of MEND by some of the most respected leaders in the field of child obesity. To be acknowledged in this manner in the most highly regarded Obesity series is due to MEND’s robust evidence base and track record of scaling up internationally."

The MEND programme also features in the Texas Childhood Obesity Research Demonstration (TX CORD) project which addresses child obesity among low income, ethnically diverse overweight and obese children aged 2-12 years; a two-tiered systems-oriented approach is hypothesized to reduce BMI z-scores, compared to primary prevention alone
